Have been to the Zoo Cafe a few times now on visits to Hull - what a lovely place. York could definitely use somewhere like this. Beautiful inside with a courtyard at the front if the sun is shining. Staff are wonderful, really friendly and helpful. Food is cheap and delicious with plenty of lovely vegan options (the homemade burger is great). Vegan cakes and milkshakes as well as regular; I never felt like my options were restricted at all. Overall a very relaxed and cheerful place to come for lunch, to sort out a hangover or just to read the paper with coffee and cake. Recommended. Positive Jenny

I have been a customer for over 10 years and can put my hand on my heart when I say that this is the best Veggie Cafe in East Yorkshire. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is really welcoming and laid back. The staff are always personable and will engage with you if you so wish. The menu is varied and the quality of food served is second to none. If you are in Hull this is really worth a visit. Positive Nic Gough

Well I work at the wonderful Zoo and I gotta say it's the best job I could ever wish for! Great chilled out atmosphere, good place for families - we got loads of toys for kiddies and loads of coffee for grown-ups! The food is lovely; tasty, healthy, reasonably priced home-cooked comfort food and the staff aren't too bad either I suppose! Come along and I'll personally make ya a tasty drink :) Positive Toni Lill

I have been to the cafe many years ago. I could say it was back in 1997. I was studying at Humberside and Lincolnshire University and staying at Princes Avenue. I always dropped by at the cafe for the coffee (extra specially with the cold weather and mashmallow). I wonder if it is still the same? Till today, I still talking about it. Most memorable is the atmosphere and good coffee. Staff back then were very friendly too. Positive Dee Dee Loh

I love this cafe and as a non-vegetarian that's saying something. The food is always fresh and tasty and the milkshakes are the best thing ever. If I lived or worked near enough I'd go to the Zoo Cafe for lunch every day. Positive Amelia Bennett

A very friendly atmosphere that is typical of an establishment where the owners and staff really enjoy their work. The Zoo is very child friendly. Children can do drawings which are then put up on the wall. It is very colourful and there is lots for them to look at.The Zoo is a great place to drop into while out in the Newlands Avenue area. You can have anything from a simple cup of tea to a complete meal. All food is freshly prepared from quality ingredients.. Simply turn up, take a seat and choose from the menu on the blackboard.Especially recommended are their soya milk cappuccino and soya milk hot chocolate.. Some examples:Main courses between £2.50 and £4.50; Daily specials £3.95; Deserts £1.95; Various cakes between 70p and £1.00; Soup + Bread £2.25; Vege(Vegan)burger £2.95 Positive Mark Evans
